In the Beginning

In the Beginning - Abby L. Vandiver

I have been waiting on writing this review, allowing myself to get my head around all of my thoughts on the book.

I liked this book, but I honestly had problems liking the main character. It had nothing to do with the writer - she did a very good job writing her - I just spent half my time wanting to yell at her, shake her, strangler her. She was so frustrating, especially when she could have come to her conclusions a lot faster if she hadn't spent so much time moping around and complaining - and if she had kept her promise. I could understand why her brothers picked on her about being crazy.

I did like her family and the way the whole group of them interacted with each other, the fact that they were there for each other - and the humor had me crack up a couple of times ... in public ... causing people to stare.

The story was a good one and I found it very interesting. When everything came together in the end, it was not at all what I expected, but there were a few parts in the book that I had an idea what was going to happen before it happened (which was great because Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot stump me quite often).

My favorite part of the book (besides the two brothers that went with her on her adventure) was the very end, when the author talks about writing the book. What an interesting idea.

Well done.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my HONEST review.
